STUDIO / GUIDE 03
Create a mission
This walkthrough creates a simple, complete route in the visual editor. Use your own story text and puzzle answer; the sample names are only examples.
1. Create a campaign and mission
Open Campaign Studio, create a campaign draft, and open its workflow. On the campaign canvas choose Add mission. Enter an author title such as “Signal at the relay” and a player title such as “The Relay”, then create it. Open the mission graph from its tab or node action.
The starter mission already contains a Start node and Mission exit. Keep them while you add the playable path.
2. Add the story
Choose a Narrative node from the palette. Give it an author label and player-facing content in the node settings. Connect Start → Narrative. The preview in the dialog shows the safe player presentation, without hidden answer fields.
For optional background material, add an Archive entry or a Hint. Archive entries reveal content without holding up the main path. Hints can be ordered and dismissed after a chosen point in the mission.
3. Add a player action
Choose a Text response node for an exact code or phrase, or Multiple choice for authored answer options and retry behavior. Put the solution in the answer field rather than in player-visible text. Connect Narrative → Check → Mission exit.
For screenshot evidence, use Photo upload and set its image count, file types, and size policy. Upload completion means the private file was stored; it does not judge what the picture shows.
To add a complete in-game objective at once, select an existing connection and choose Insert physical stage. Enter the player instruction, optionally select a location from Resources, choose player confirmation, an exact text answer, or a photo upload, and write the text shown after confirmation. Studio replaces that connection with editable instruction, optional location, confirmation, and completion nodes. The original branch remains connected through the new path. This template uses the normal player terminal and does not require a No Man's Sky mod.
4. Route the mission
Return to the campaign route. Select the entry mission, then connect the mission's named exit to a following mission or an ending. If this is the only mission, create an ending and connect the exit to it. The route and the internal mission graph are both needed for a finishable campaign.
5. Validate and test
Read the validation tray. It points to incomplete settings, unreachable nodes, broken references, missing transitions, and other findings. Fix all blocking findings and wait for the draft to finish saving. Choose Test campaign. This freezes the exact draft version into an author-only playtest; later draft edits require a new snapshot to test them.
Open the playtest workspace and run through the player flow. Adjust the draft and create another playtest when needed. Publish only after you have checked the intended route. See Validation and playtests and Publishing and player links.
